That is a fantastic (and HUGE) job you have there. I can see some very house proud people in that house.
Do you have an outside pic of the house to give us an idea of dimensions?______________________________________________

Thanks Wendy! That is Jarrah around the doorways - my husband milled a lot of jarrah (all the rafters, etc.) on our mobile mill, but we did buy some at auctions, too - mostly rough-sawn. Also the 6 x 3 Marri floor joists (see pic). I planed them all with an 82 mm planer, and yes, it's still alive - a good ol' Makita one!!! It is fun that the kids share similar interests - they'll never know what boredom is, I'm sure!
Thanks Andy! & Andraax....lol - I figure that one day someone will drool over our house (incl. me) and want to pull it apart to build furniture with all the timber!! But, sorry, not happening yet - let us finish it first! The floor boards we bought at auction as seconds & believe me, they were SECONDS! I had a lot of work to do just cutting out the really bad bits, but had the drop saw up on the deck so it was handy. No floor clamps, so did the ol' chisel trick on every joist on every board! I still have some left that will need planing before using for furniture.
Andraax, the house isn't all that big - around 240 odd m2 internally, plus verandas, garage & conservatory, but we'll have separate visitor's accom. in the shed we're living in now, plus a 6 x 9m WORKSHOP, once we move into the house!! I'm looking forward to the workshop bit just as much as the new house! I'll take an external shot in the next couple of weeks after we are finished some more jobs and have cleaned up the slab area!!! We'll be starting on the walls downstairs soon - double limestone. I can't wait for us to get some walls up so I can start on the built-ins for the ground floor - there's enough work there to keep me running for a bit - kitchen, two bathroom vanity units, wardrobes, cupboards, pantry, laundry, etc.
Cheers,
Jill.

Hi Jil,
You must feel all warm and fuzzy!! You and your family have done a fantastic job, 240 m3 is a good size home, we are currently adding an ext to our home, will bring it up to 260m3, love the floor boards!! we plan to lay Black Butt down in our ext soon, plan to lay boards on 35mm studs at 450 centres on a concrete foundation.
How about a couple of photos of the outside??
Keep up the great (hard work)
Cheers,
Gary

Absolutely amazing stuff. Do you have a website or any more pics you can post. I am just as interested in the milling, the planning, the timber, the inspiration, inside, outside- everything really. I am in awe.

Thanks, Gary - I'm sure you're floor will look fantastic. I'd love to see pics when it's done. I'll take some of the outside of our place in a couple of weeks. The slab below has timber everywhere right now - plus guttering, etc.!! Should have most of that used and up very soon.
Thanks again, Wendy! And thanks Shaun - the inspiration last time we built was mine initially, but then my husband's as my enthusiasm rubbed off! Main inspiration - 1. low/non-toxic home for our kids to grow up in; 2. the creative side; 3. more land; 4. less debt. Last house we built was really rustic (see my post "Seriously rustic" on here) and we would have happily lived in it forever, but ended up shifting states, so we are building again.

Thanks, Wongo - we tend to take it for granted, since we see it everyday & tend to see what is left to do yet, rather than what we've accomplished so far! It's good having a photographic record, though, as you can flick through and see the progress. My husband judged our initial log-framing progress by the pile of logs LEFT, rather than what was up! There are still some there!
I must tell you, you posted your built-in pics (library for your in-laws) when I was building these, and I was a bit worried about putting mine on here after seeing yours!
Cheers,
Jill

Hi Jill,
I really think that your house is going to be iconic for you and your family. From the photographs you've so kindly presented for us, it's easy to see how lovely this home will be.
Wonderful work, and my congratulations for it

When do you get time to do some of the mundane things in life Jill , like eating and sleeping . I remember seeing the pics of your previous house and this looks as though it will surpass that . Brilliant
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan
