I have read EVERY page and every post on every page of this thread over the last hour and although you've let the cat out of the bag as to location "SW WA"... that comment covers a lot of territory my young lady! I do think you should clarify just exactly where you are!! Okay how about just the shire? Cause I gotta know what shire your in so I can sell this place and move there!!

G'day Jill,
After reading Dingo's post above and getting to the point of what he was saying I'll echo those same setiments.
FLAMIN FANBLOODYTASTIC AWEINSPIRIN WORK! Why let a bit of plagarism get in the way when it can be said so succinctly?

Lol, Shane - thanks for giving me the Wild Dingo spiel!! I read it out (minus expletives!) to Steve and the kids!!! As to location...lets just say you are only in the next shire (as far as I know, being relatively new to WA), and only 1/2 an hour away! Look at the species in the bush behind, and the hills, and lets see if you can work it out!
Thanks, too Waldo and Alex! I'll update in a few days. We took the day off today and went driving and exploring with the kids. So, we've had our holiDAY, now!
Cheers,
Jill

Jill watching with a great deal of interest and awaiting more pics.
Do we have a game of Cat N Mouse here with Dingo?

Thanks Peter! I hope to make some major progress during these school holidays - I have about 6 weeks' work on my list for the 2 weeks! The timber for most of the doors is to arrive Wed., the windows should finally be ready this week, too. This cold wind is pretty hard to work in for a frog like me! I've a dark pink beanie to top off my usual work gear, now - definitely not catwalk material - esp. with earmuffs underneath, glasses in use or on top & major amounts of sawdust!
Lol, yep - we'll see if Shane's a real dingo & can sus' it out!
Cheers,
Jill

Jill,
I'm with Dingo - damn fine work! (but he said it better).
I have to say, you have me itching to buy a block of land and get building - something I've been meaning to do for the last four years. I, too am interesed in the whole process that you have gone through (and are going through)- planning, drawing, council approval, foundations and of course the building. You should post a site detailing all the trials and tribulations and PHOTOS of course, once you have moved in and settled down a little (in 6 months maybe?). Congratulations on a wonderful effort so far - I have bookmarked this thread and look forward to viewing your progress - but freely tell us all to get stuffed so you can get on with it, 'cos the house comes first - we are all just interested observers.
Trevor.

Hi Mong - I'll take one in a couple of weeks or so - once we do the walls at the front. It's hard to take a decent one of the front, as it faces down the hill!
Steve's taking tomorrow off and we're picking up the windows - 5 - 6 hour round trip, then we'll do some work. I've one jarrah door only an hour or so off finished, and the entry door timbers (jarrah) all thicknessed and ready to cut joints, etc. Using whatever timber we have on hand makes it interesting - milling and thicknessing bits and pieces to get the sizes I need. Rafter offcuts that I managed to save from going down as firewood are coming in handy, too! My pine for the internal doors is supposed to arrive today.
Thanks Trevor! I would like to set up a website - but later on sounds like the plan! Any specific info you'd like prior to that, feel free to PM me. Our council have been fantastic (and helpful whenever we've needed to ask info we couldn't find easily elsewhere - I also asked for a info on all the specs for wet areas, so that we can do it right the first time around & they happily posted me a printout), and the only inspection left is the final.
We are also using plumb-dingers under our baths. Not common over here (most people look at you like you've lost the plot when you ask about them!), and they are 4 x the price here, compared to Qld., so we asked a friend to post a couple over for us. They're on their way, and will make it so much easier to fit the bath "under-belly" plumbing (since I'm SO up with all the building terminology)!!!
Cheers,
Jill

Hi Jill,
Sorry I am lost:confused: what are "plumb dingers"
I have now finished our extension garage and studio, the floor looks great,
just a simple extension, rectangle, I can appreciate the amount of work you and your family have done, the "Little jobs" just keep coming along!! great work,
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary & thanks. It is very satisfying, though, isn't it, having done it yourself! It's lucky that we've built before or this would be a daunting task! The round log frame added mega amounts of work and time to the project, but we don't regret that! Luckily, building can be a great hobby! Do you have pics on here of any of your extension?
Here's a pic of a plumb-dinger. They are commonly used by plumbers in Queensland. The one in the pic is upside down. The pipe you see sticking up is fitted to the waste water plumbing, and it can be turned (of course) and the bath outlet fitted anywhere along the length of it. It gives you something like 150 mm offset from the waste pipe.
Windows are apparently still ANOTHER week away. Oh well - plenty to do in the meantime!
Cheers,
Jill

Great work Jill & Steve. It must give you so much pleasure to see what you have created together & knowing it will be your Family home for many years to come. The down days when thing don't go the way you want them to would be frustrating but I am sure that they are by far out-weight by your success'.
We completely rebuild our bathroom about 18 months ago, it was totaly our design & I helped the bloke do the job. Very satisfying, but still not like You & Steve actually doing it yourself.
Well done mate

Thanks Steve - very true! Things like less than half my timber order (for the doors) arriving yesterday are a tad frustrating, but apart from little things like that, it has gone smoothly. Both of us are keen, and don't mind hard physical work, and work well as a team, so it flows smoothly.
Do you have pics of your bathroom reno work on here? Reno work is two or three times the work, with three times as much mess (or more) generated, isn't it!
Cheers,
Jill

Hi Jill,
No I don't have any photos on here, I fell into the same trap that most people do, & failed to back up regularly. I lost all of my data earlier this year & my backup data was just over 12 months old, so no pics from 2005 at all. While I can take pics of the new bathroom, it is hard to imagin how tiny the old bathroom was.
Although we did not change the actual room size, & we replaced the old bath tup with a huge Spa, & tripled the size of the shower, it now looks bigger than it used to. This is because nothing is where it used to be.
It was a tricky job as we are a 1 bathroom home. Our shower was a sprinkler on the end of the garden hose that went from an atachment I made up over the laundry trough, down the back yard & behind the pool.
Adjusting the temp of the shower was a shout to somebody inside & a 20 -30 second wait to see what effect the change made.
At least it was summer time.
funny now, looking back.

Lol Steve - I imagine it was amusing for the neighbours as well?!! You'd sure have to trust one another with the temp., wouldn't you!!! Lucky we don't have to do that here at the moment - we'd sure freeze!
Your reno sure would have made a huge and enjoyable difference! Shame you lost your pics! No doubt many other ones you wanted, too. I think it's happened to most of us at some stage...then we still get lax and don't back up often enough!
I didn't get any doors built today - have a couple of sick kids today that want me around. I did unpack and wash 30 or so limestone blocks, though and we'll lay them soon.
Cheers,
Jill
