"Built-in" Aquarium Cabinet
Hi Guys,
I've nearly completed my current project, that of enclosing my 1.8m marine aquarium. I built the tank and stand about 12 months ago, and then spent the rest of the year SLOWLY completing the enclosure, only working perhaps one day per month for most of that time. Fortunately, I had some leave which I had to take, so I spent most of my waking time (and some dreaming as well...) during the last four weeks doing the bulk of the work.
The enclosure (frame and doors) is built from solid red oak, it has a total of 17 raised panel doors, and measures 3.3m (length) x 0.8m (width) x 2.6m (height).
The tank and filter-sump holds 1200 liters of sea water, 8 fish, and some 20 species of corals.
As you can see, I still need to finish some doors, apply a moulding around the top, and add the door handles and stops - oh, and clean the glass of the aquarium, I've really neglected it during the past few weeks
Regards,
Hennie Landman

Great work, love the grain in your timber
You said it was 'red oak'. What is the scientific name?

I never try and get my ambitions and capabilities mixed up, but a few cold beers, on a hot day, and well, you all know what happens next!

Hennie,
great stuff. You achieved some wonderful grain matching on the panels. I also spotted the "knotty"? pine ceilings. Sure brings back some memories. We do not see much of that in Western Australia (well - not in Perth anyway).

Les
