    Default Burning wave

    Hello,
Thought I might share one of my student's work with you, as I'm quite impressed with how he's done. I've been taking 2nd yr sculpture students through a semester of woodwork: basic joinery, laminating and bending, and carving. This student decided to extend the project, and sourced a heap of timber offcuts from building sites, mostly cypress. He screwed & glued a series of frames into progressive curves of graduating dimensions, and bolted them together with lengths of threaded bar keeping about 250mm between them. The resulting form was a large wave-like structure, with a finished size was about 3m high and 6m or so long.
His problem was what to do with it after...so we transported to his place in pieces and reassembled it. And of course had a ritual burning, as you do as an art student! He went through all the hoops with regard permission.
It was a suitable night Friday, no breeze, full moon and it turned out quite spectacularly.
The attached photo were taken by my 9yr old daughter, as I was running about with a back-pack sprayer. Hope you enjoy...
