    Default Butchers Block & Frame

I have finally finished my butchers block. This was my first attempt at mortise and tenon joints for the frame......very time consuming as I cut them all by hand. I realised after I had finished these joints that it is better to make the mortise 1st and then make the tenon suit, not the other way round as I did......oh well, live and learn.

The frame is just radiata pine but I used 50mm thick tallow wood for the block....I got this timber for free from the timber supplier I goto as he said it was only used for packing.

The butchers block is 400x400mm which is quite a decent amount of space for cutting.....much to my suprise. I finished the block upto 1200grit and used walnut oil on the wood. Overall quite happy with it and I estimate it cost me just under AUD$20 to make.

My partner is also quite pleased and started using it just as soon as I finished it - 1st think on the menu from the block was a vegetable curry....it's nearly ready now I think.

    Spoon Man,

I guess you will be making some special spoons for a particular footy team this year.

I like the chopping block, but I always worry - who will be the first to leave knife marks in the new chopping block?

Hey Campbellw, welcome to the forum.

to answer your question, I'm not sure if you are an idiot or not, but I'm pretty sure I'm not & I'm buggered if I can see any pics.

    Hey spoonman,

I have made a couple of butcher blocks, & I'll prolly make a few more. I find them an enjoyable project to make.

I'll bet your's is a ripper, but I can't see any pics, & it seems I'm not alone.

Congrats on finishing it anyway, It's always a good idear to keep the cook happy.
