Cajon Case Cajon Bass and Cajon Rhumba
I have been doing a little more experimenting with the cajons.
The first is a carry case for a Seprewa(small African harp) which is held in a frame at the base of the box.
A set of kalimba tynes with a metal bridge can be screwed to the lid of the box.
The two large sides are the playing surfaces of the cajon.
The box sides are ply. Nothing interesting so I decided to paint them.Scally

Bass Cajon
A drumming friend has a standard cojon and was looking for a Bass cajon.
He will attached a drum pedal and ply it like a conventional bass drum
The dimensions are
800 x 380 x 300mm.
Rubber feet will be fitted to keep it in one spot.
A plate will be screwed to the base to connect the pedal/
The playing faces are 3mm ply and the rest of the drum is 13mm ply.Scally

Rhumba Cajon
Cajons are played by sitting on the box and slapping one of the faces.
This can be a bit hard on the back and the bum.
I made a simple light weight stand and fitted threaded nuts to each end of an oversized cajon. Now it can be played standing up.
Dimensions are 800 x 380 x 250mm.
The stand is adjustable to hold the cajon around waist high.
One surface is thin, 3mm ply and the other is thicker, 7mm ply to provide two different playing surfaces.
Sometimes a set of kalimba tynes are attached to a box. This is called a Rhumba Box.
I made a metal bridge to keep it compact. I tapped threads for M6 bolts in the bottom section of the bridge.
Allen keys quickly attach the bridge to the cajon near the sound hole.
I am still adjusting the tynes to get them in tune. When tuned I will trim the tail ends of the tynes to the edge of the bridge.
It has a deep resonating sound.
Next I will add slap plates to the sides of the cajon.Scally

The Family
Thanks Harry
I wish I knew how to put those Youtube clips on here.
He sounds pretty handy.
He has a snare in the cajon that gives the tight rattling sounds.
I have one in the Rhumba Box. It is on a hinges so you can pull the snare aware from the face if you don't want the snare effect.
He is the Cajon family all together.
Some of them will get a run at the Stomp festival in town this weekend.Scally
