    Default Carving Mallets

These are some mallets that I made last year for doing some carving and general whumping.
The large mallet is made of apple i think. It is nice and heavy, really good for when the bit extra persuasion is needed.
The small mallet is made from timber (was made from some bits of a hardwood pallet no idea what type). It is great for detail carving in harder timber when you need a bit of extra help to get the chisel moving.
Both of the mallets were given four coats of dewaxed blonde shellac, just to seal the timber. I really enjoyed making them and look forward to when I get my own lathe finished cause I want one sized in between these two.
Have a nice day - Cheers

    Hi Major,

The big mallet is around 240mm long and 85mm dia.
The small mallet is about 190mm long and only 50mm dia.

Both were just given a few coats of dewaxed blonde shellac to seal the timber.

They are both really good to use, nut I think that after seeing yours on the weekend I would like to make one of them too for when you need a lot of whack in a small tool.
Have a nice day - Cheers
