Put one up for my 3yo in February and just recently some more in the front entry of our house.

The little one is an old plywood skateboard deck my Other Half made when he was a teenager and I found floating around the garage. I sanded it really well then put on two coats of Danish Oil. The hooks are Vippa small ones from Ikea - $5 for a pack of 4.

The timber for the larger ones was cut from the top of an old oak desk with really dark stain. I sanded it back but not completely - the grain still holds a little of the stain for definition. The edges have a narrow round-over and the whole thing has two coats of Danish Oil. Large Vippa hooks from Ikea are $5 for a pack of 2.

A lovely demonstration of preschooler egotism was the day I was sanding the long pieces. My 3yo comes home while I am sanding and says "are you making my swing?" (which I have also cut from the oak desktop). When I tell her that no I am making a coat rack she replies "but I already have a coat rack" .
