    Default My first chopping board

First attempt at a chopping board this arvo. Made from an old redgum house stump and put together with dominos and Titebond2. Finished with a 'token' layer of Traditional Wax before it goes under the knife...

    Cheers,
    Damen

    Nice work, Damen.

Should get years of good use out of that.

    Nice work.

Just be careful the wood hasn't been treated with some toxic stuff like creosote.

Thanks for the heads up Woodborer. Checked with the old man he doesn't think so. I've heard it's more common in commercial as opposed to residential applications???. Is there a way you can check if timber has be treated with Creosote e.g. distinctive smell or colour?

Creosote - the stumps would have had thick black gunk on the outside...

Not always. I have a lots of old posts at our place (cattle/sheep yards) that are creosote treated and they look "normal". But you can tell they are creosote treated when you cut them - by the smell.
    Cheers.

looks great, you'd know if it was creosote treated by the smell and with most Aussie hardwoods they are not impregnable by treatments so it really only affects sap & cracks/splits
