Finish
I am using a water based urethane finish from Primeline chemical systems, called woodtuff , it seems to be ok so far, easy to work with , water clean up , no smell , ( a little bit, about like tile floor sealer ) but its expensive 70$ US a gallon.
Claims to have a non yellowing affect, wich it seems to be true, and a UV inhibitor in it, thats why i chose it, the darkening of the purple heart. I have WAYYY too much money invested in this simple table for it to turn brown think im up to almost 300$US if i dont count all the tools i gave myself an excuse to buy , lets not talk about the tools, ( well ok got one helluva router 3-1/4HP Milwaukee with variable speed for the splines , to name the only one the ole lady knows about)

Why not use Wipe-on poly ?
http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Coffe Table Finish
Well,
I dont like the final outcome of wipe on poly for this project, normally I love it, but I want this table finish to look and feel like glass. Ill be happy if I can look at the top and see my ugly face looking back .

Fella: As soon as I successfully fire it up, I'll post a drawing. If the whole thing implodes, well, ...
Studley: yep, lots of rings and donuts in this project.
oges: must be a tiny cyclone to fit into a mouse sander. Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

8ball:
Brilliant: colour, chatoyance, and gloss are superb. What about a picture in daylight, for a more even lighting effect? Score 1 for water based poly (I'm a believer too.) Greeny on way.
PS Sorry about the evidently misposted item above: too late to delete! Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Great Gloss
Don't normally like such a high gloss but it really works for this piece.
Well done - especially for sticking to your guns until you got what you originally had in mind.
Cheers

end tables
Any ideas for end tables that match? I saved the other piece of purpleheart for these, 18" x 48", along with some of the maple , thought about reversingn the comvbination , but the same basic thing shorter length.
