A collection of bowls
I have been on here for a while and not posted any pictures of what I have been doing. The row of bowls at the back are two camphor laurel bowls and a spalted silver birch finished in Organoil. The group of four on the left is some recycled fiddleback red gum 5"x1 1/2", The burl bowl in the centre shows how far I have come in 8 months of turning, it was the first burl bowl I tried, cam out of the chuck twice, seemed immpossibly hard unfriendly and was placed on the shelf for 6 months. I managed to get it back in the chuck, despite most of the foot being missing, re-turn the foot and finish it. Strange thing was it was not all that difficult second time around, the finish on this one is shellawax. The remaining three are a lace she oak bowl from a tree killed in the Canberra Jan 18 bushfires, colour is not so good in the photo, a warped cherry bowl and a claret ash bowl with bead decoration over the outer surface. The warped bowl is finished in Ubeaut sanding sealer/ traditional wax. Rsser if you read this, I asked Richard to demonstrate what he meant about his book description of turning beads on a bowl and it makes a damn lot more sense when you actually do it. At some time in the future I will put up some of the boxes and other things.
