Definately good, tried to give a greeny... but I must spread it around a bit more!
yeah I've seen it in books, but not as a visual aspect only as a high strenght joint.

Looks solid for a nest of tables. Like the design. What is the timber.

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

    Ross,
You are a master of proportion and aesthitics. I love your style, and they look well executed as usual. I love the butterfly ties in the check- very nakashima. Are those ebony dowells connecting the aprons to the legs? Great job!

To me they serve 3 purposes
1 -Makes practial the use of timber that would otherwise need to be cut into smaller sections.
    2 -Looks good
3- Gives the owner something to talk about to his visiting friends

I sit here blushing at your kind words but as you well know design is a painful process and not always as successful as this project.

No not dowels but rather darker blackwood plugs yet to be installed. Lots of purists dump on the use of screws in a place like this but if Sam Maloof is still using them after 60 years then it is good enough for me!

Thanks for the compliment but as I said to Ryan it is not always as good a result as this I also dont post any of the crap ideas I come up with! I just wish I could draw what I see in my head like some on this forum can.

Very nice as usual Ross. Are you going to fill between the butterfly ties or leave as is? Either would look good I reckon.

Don't throw away the crap ideas - sometimes you will hit on an idea later that transforms it into a gem.

Wonderful use of grain selection and "feeling the timber", rather a masterful set of peices. You "comissee" should be estatic. What do you intend to finish with? Just came back from the apple isle with the roof rack and the back seat of the land cruiser full of "loverly" tassie imbers, including some wonderful deep chocalate blackwood from our mate at Tassie Timber down in Franklin.
