From cot to toddler bed
I've had a hand-me-down cot in my room for years with it's only purpose being to hold my junk. With any luck, little miss terror-pants will be coming to spend the odd night with her old man so I thought she'd like a nice bed for herself.
I pulled the thing apart, stripped it, cleaned up the dowel holes, patched all the dings and old bolt holes, trimmed it down so the mattress is closer to the ground and the foot end is lower than the head, replaced the slats with some paneling and gave it a splatter of two slightly different pink paints.
I need to have a bit more of think about how to stop her rolling out in her sleep without blocking the entire sides off. The "roll fences" will also act as supports to stop it collapsing inwards in the event of jumping. I might update later with what I end up doing.
It was a fun little project for my darling little monster anwayEvery time you make a typo, the errorists win.

Very neat conversion there RSG!!!
When I made a bed for our young fellow I also made a removable half side that was about 300mm high.
It sat over the side frame and leant against the head area post. It was on the heavy side so it could not
be easily dislodged. Did The job!!

The bed she has at her mum's has short roll guards that come out from the head and foot about 1/3 of the way along the mattress so there's a gap in the middle where she can get in. I'd like to do something like that rather than a full length fence; at least on one side anyway.
I was thinking I'd take the bottom off the original side fences and make L shapes (possibly paneled as well) that can go into the head/foot and the mattress stretcher. They probably don't need to be super strong but I'm concerned about how to attach them so that in the unlikely event of the timber breaking there isn't a screw or bolt poking out that she can get stabbed with.
The mattress doesn't sit inside the base like I thought it would so I've possibly lost the ability to secure the guards on the inside of the stretchers without squashing the mattress. Originally I thought I'd be able to do something that went across the base and under the mattress that could be secured to the slats.
I haven't had a really good look at what I can do yet so I might go do that now seeing as I'm horrendously bored and don't have much else to do other than, *shudder*, cleaning.Every time you make a typo, the errorists win.
