cutting board
Experimenting with jointer over the weekend and knocked up a simple jarrah/ tassy oak chopping board finished with some organoil. Found the grain was too coarse so using as bread board or for salads.
Next one was a blooper, tried to end grain but really stuffed it up.
cut lots of little blocks and glued them together - doh. talk about dumb way to do it. Have since realised what I should have done intead of trying to work with heaps of little blocks that all had a mind of their own when trying to clamp them together.
anyway this is whats left of the blooper after i dropped it 3 times from 4 ft onto concrete to see how well the glue held. not bad, except for one corner. it was going to the woodpile anyway.
For the wood I used some offcuts from the hardwood wood sale studley and co arranged. Used new 60 tooth crosscut blade - did a real neat job on the end grain.
i'll try again later, reckon it'll come up good
cheers

Tony, the first one is excelent, & we lean from our mistakes. Personally, I still have an awful lot of mistakes to make before I will know what I am doing.
SteveThe fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.

The jarrah and TO look real nice together.
So you learnt something with the end grain board!
Ps. That wood in the end grain board isnt real flash if it gets wet... did you see what it did to the cab roof of my ute? It leaches a black stain.(tannins?)....................................................................

I forgot about the stains until you mentioned it Harry, bugger. Might not be a good idea after all
We ended up suggesting soursobs but from what I recall you didn't fancy the idea LOL
Fortunately I now have LOTS of wood so a blooper or two won't matter. Actually its probably a good thing, learning is half the fun.
SWMBO really liked the jarrah/to board too, came up heaps better than i thought it would, recycled floor boards for the jarrah but had to buy the Tassy oak.

Mistakes are fine, just don't repeat them and don't make too many. I'll have to take my own advice. lol.
If you can do it - Do it! If you can't do it - Try it!
Do both well!

Hi Tonysa
Nice chopping boards. I even like the second one, even if it wasn't suitable as a chopping board.
