    Default Just A Coincidence!

It seems that making cutting boards is popular amongst members.

An attractive, simple to make cheeseboard/breadboard is described in detail in the current issue of THE TRITON WOODWORKER.

I made three boards recently, two were end grain the other one was a thinner cheese board. End grain boards are more solid and harder wearing, I also happen to think they look better with the variety of patterns etc.

I used titebond III and almond oil. I posted some pictures in an earlier post.

All my bread boards and kitchen spatulas are finished with paraffin oil.
Just adding my two cents worth.

OK - I'm addicted to these things

This week I'm going with a thicker look and some different woods.

The 1st one I'm not really happy with, no real pattern in it.
The 2nd one is Lawson cypress and Walnut, makes a good contrast.
The curly grain Lawson cypress in the 3rd board gives a really neat effect although it doesn't really contrast with the Macrocarpa cypress.

Back to the shed to try some more combos

    Macrocarpa cypress behind bars?

I agree with your impressions for the first and second. The third I love!!!

With things this size you can pick those interesting pieces with the curly grain or a little piece of q-sawn wood that shows ray flecks well. I mill my own wood from all sorts of interesting trees so I get lots of 'interesting' and knotty bits of wood that I can trim up for little projects like this.

The wood that shows the ray flecks is q-sawn NZ Lacebark which is really just a large shrub, but my American friends tell me that your sycamore has the same look.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply.........this may be an illusion or perhaps I have had one too many pints.....but in the first set of pics the lower left hand cutting board has a very wavey look to it. May be the pic........but the pieces of wood are straight are they not?

Thanks again and may you have the blessings of a thousand monks!
