    Default more dam cutting boards

Haven't made a cutting board since I was in year 8, but the last issue of Fine Woodworking was inspiring, and I realised they didn't have to be just square blocks.

So, some left over jarrah, mother's day coming up, no idea what to get the mothers in my life ......

Plus, my mother liked the last cutting board I made, so I'm sure she'll like one of these even with all their flaws.

Finish is one coat of paraffin oil sourced from the local specialty store (Woolworths). Plenty left over if anyone's constipated.

    Tex

Better than that - I love the raised handle idea - makes a lot of sense! Can see a lot of uses for that design. Bugger - another project I'll probably never get to!

Of course you mother liked the one you made when you were young - it's a requirement of being a parent! Going though that stage with my kids atm

Great boards with the handle, great colour too. What is the size of the cutting area?

    Tex,
Nice work there the i love the colour. You say you used paraffin oil does that work well as a timber finish?

    Nice job,

    Alistair,

Sorry to be so slow responding. Somehow work has a habit of getting in the way of my hobby.

Paraffin oil (mineral oil) seems to be the consensus choice for finishing a cutting board, as it is very stable and food safe and etc etc. This is probably more a cheese serving thing than a chopping block, but I used it anyway. Not real shiny, but a nice matte finish and brings out the grain pretty well, which was what I was after.

The serving/cutting area is about 250 mm square.
