    Default Desktop tidy

Simple desktop tidy. MAde from Jarrah, industrial sized banding from African blackwood and huon. First time I've done any inlay fro a while so I thought I'd make it easy on myself. Hexagonal pen holder thingy, and duff tale drawer. Finished in shellac and wax, I wished I had used blonde shellac as the garden variety has darkened the huon more than I'd like.

Hopefully my daughter will get some use out of it, and what's more my son has an order in for one.

OB, can you give us some idea of the size of this piece and the timber thickness? What is the intended use of the drawer compartment? When the drawer is extracted, will it rub on the desk surface, or is it off the desk somewhat?

I'm not sure if I've heard of a 'desk tidy' before. But that doesn't matter, I'm finishing a small box (pictures next week in the box forum) but haven't got a clue what it's for. Nor do I care. The joy is in the making!

DPB, rough dimensions for the main compartment with the drawer are 330 wide, 210 deep and 140 high. Which is not quite, but getting close to the old 1:1.62 rule. The pencil holder thingy is about 100 high, which is a bit shorter than most standard type pens. MAin body timber is 19mm thick, drawer about 6mm, and pencil doova 8mm.

I originally designed (using that word loosely) it for myself, so the drawer would hold a small stapler or highlighter pens etc. I have no money so a storage area for this is n ot needed. The bottom of the drawer front has exactly 5/16 of a bees dick clearance from the desk top to avoid snagging, which makes the bee happy.

The term desk tidy may be wrong, call it a caddy, tidierupper, junk repository, or whatever. Assuredly the making is more important than the title.

I admire anyone who does their own design work. It's one part of woodworking with which I struggle. Most of the work I do I've has been from plans or copied from someone else's work. Woodworking plagiarism, I call it.

Just looked up the work "plagiarism" - copying someone elses work and passing it off as ones own. I guess I don't do that.

You know, Outback, that's mighty fine work for someone with an avator & title like yours! I've never tried inlay work (yet), and admire your skill!

    Cheers,

    Jill
