    Default Dining Table

    Hi All

Last year some friends of mine wanted a larger dining table so gave me my first real "big" project.

an interesting job as I did not have a flat area that large to do final glue up and still get it outside and to my mates so borrowed the work shed for that stage

.. got myself some Veritas panel Clamps but made the mistake of rushing the hole drilling process for the timber used for the clamps, the holes did not quite meet so had to use them as sash clamps
That's what happens when you use one of your Dad's Mates fathers (IE total stranger) sheds to do the work in. I didn't want to impose on his day but don't think he really would have minded me taking my time..

    The Dimensions are
    • Top 2200*1050*28
    • Rails x*100*19
    • legs 740*74*74 (made from 2 times 45*90 glued together)
It was all made with Tas Oak the contrasting timbers on the top were a happy accident.

Rails were fixed by making a cross between a "mortise and tenon" and a rebate. I am sure someone will give me its proper name Pic 5 shows what I mean.

    Finished with Organoil

They have also had a smaller one made for the kitchen (1300 long, no photos) which is in situ but not quite finished the legs had a couple of issues so rails are not glued in place properly.. I am replacing them with new legs and rails which I will Domi together in the next week. should have been done by now but I've been crook and with my current mental powers could all too easily stuff it up on them:eek:

And there is a possibility of them wanting a short wall unit as well

Feel free to comment - nothing too caustic though

    Andrew

    Thanks Harry72

my mate is buying som nice leather ones to go with this .. he has to wait longer for them than for the table.. but they are on the agenda as a future project. I'm currently researching and trying to source some good info on designs and building them.. the local library has atrove of good books then i will unleash the beast within (the one that cowers in the corner at the mere mention of chair) .. after I've made about half a dozen other things
