Dining Table
Here is another project I did some time back. I had some Spotted Gum stair tread material unusable for a job I was doing....(colour didn't match the rest of the treads!!)
I found a use for them...at my place!!!
The frame is 65x 65 steel angle welded together and spray painted. Legs are 65x65 spotted gum fixed through the steel frame. Top is 40mm thick but has a large chamfer on all edges to give the impression of thinness. The top appears to be 'floating' above the frame by way of stainless steel tubes sandwiched between the top and the frame. A light table it is not!!!
The top in the shed.

It is a beautiful table. The Spotted gum looks amazing.
I am interested to know how you attached the top the the base that allows wood movement.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

No allowance made at all for wood movement in this case.
The top is attached by means of stainless steel type 17 batten screws through the tubes and into the top. there would be enough flex in the screws to take up any expansion or contraction in the top.
I was doing the internal fitout on a home at Vaucluse and the architect had designed a computer desk for the owner. I just stole some/all of his ideas and incorporated them into the table.

Yeah, it's amazing what timber some people don't like. This timber was too dark to use as treads on a job I was doing. Their loss my gain!!
