Default I don't know what to call it

I don't know what you call it, but my D-I-L came to me this summer and asked me to build something for her classroom (her budget couldn't stand it) It was some sort of tubular steel Easel and storage tray thingy. She also wanted a box to hold her "Sentence cards" (whatever that is) so I started figuring on what woods I had available and tried to go by the catalog picture and add as many features as possible and make something nice for her 3rd grade classroom. Here is the result:

The front has Dry marker surface and a marker tray along with access to storage bins.
It is a little taller than her 4'8" self and easy for her to reach as charts can drape across the top.

the back holds a book rack as well as a storage slot for the charts, and access to the trays.
The removable drawer holds the 24" long Sentence strips(?) and has dividers to keep the separated.
A fun project figuring the parts and angles and procedures. I already crabbed about the experience glueing up the little guy. Finish is Poly 2 coats brushed on and two coats wipe-on. Although the joints are M&T and some biscuits as well, I add a few Brass screws to assure the rough treatment of years in the classroom have to offer.
The wood all was salvage. the legs were from some recycled Church remodeling and the log boards were from a Pallet a friend found at his work. The drawer was from 1/4" Walnut plywood I had stored from a room addition I did 26 years ago. (I don't throw away anything.... )
Thanks for looking and putting up with my crabbing.

Nice result Hickory, and extremely practical. Good to see you're a miser with wood as well.

I'm sure that when kids are exposed to good quality design when they're small, it stays with them.

You D-I-L is one lucky gal - I bet she's the envy of all the other teachers now. That's a great job - a great combination of practicality, good design and a nice finish. I like the brass screw touch. Well done.

    That's one fine-looking whatsit.

I also like the brass-screws, having a soft spot for brass in woodwork; it adds the "this is old-school, precision equipment" feel.

Very well designed and executed doo-hicky, Hickory! The snoblets will have a ball racin' round the classroom on that when your DIL turns her back.

Great ideas Hickory, both in design and implementation!!

    I'd call it the "EasyEasel"

Whatever you call it, you have made a very practical, useful and beautiful thing which combines form, function and execution. Well done.

A nice, practical and good looking piece Hickory.

Somehow, I have the idea that to withstand the torments imposed by a bunch of 3rd grade ankle biters would be to build it from titanium & carbon fibre

Thanks guys & gals, I delivered it to her classroom yesterday and she said, "That is exactly what I wanted" She had not seen the piece or the design, She had showed me a catalog with two items circled, I combined them to one piece and made what I thought she wanted, using my materials at hand.

You can't get higher praise than that... I wish that I heard it more often.
