Default Double Six Set of Dominoes and Box

My first photo submission to the group as a very new member - hope it works.
I made a gift for one of my sons for his birthday. A double six set of dominoes (for playing the domino game of 42) and box to store them in. The box is made out of walnut and the dominoes are made from leopardwood. Leopardwood was used because of its more uniform grain pattern.

I had intended for the box to be my first use of dovetail joints, but I couldn't master them before I could get good results. I had to use miter joints on the box instead.

Each domino "pip" was hand drilled with a vintage Millers Falls egg beater drill and a special drill bit. They were then hand painted with an acrylic paint.

Nice job - personally I prefer mitre joints on boxes anyway.

Also, I had never heard of the game of 42 and would not even have dreamed that a state would have its own official domino game. Just goes to show that you really do learn something every day.

Nice work! I especially like the careful pattern (veneer?) placement on the box lid.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the compliment. The lid and box are solid walnut.
