Eltham & District Woodworkers Exhibition 2012
I'm not long home from the Eltham and District Woodworkers 2012 Exhibition which, as usual, was a marvellous event. There was something for every category of woodwork including the favourite 'make it yourself' section for kids. Rather than uploading 80 odd images into this thread, I've created an album for you to peruse:

I normally go to the Eltham Exhibition but unfortunately,
due to the death and subsequent funeral of my brother-in-law
it was not possible this year.
Thanks Scott for taking the time to do some photography of
the exhibits.

Your first pic there shows one of my pet hates about exhibitions. A nice piece of furniture with a couple of bowls stuck on top of it. Nice bowls maybe, but not up to the standard of the piece they are on. That reduces the impact of the first article and shows up the bowls by comparison. Most other pieces were shown on white display ground, if I'd made either the sideboard or the bowls then I would have preferred them all shown individually. Many larger pieces in the exhibition were allowed to stand alone, they present much better.
I got caught myself at a recent exhibition, I'd made a contemporary design sideboard with an interesting grain pattern and had spent a lot of time working on the finish only to have it virtually covered by fluffy slippers and felted bloody dogs.
Unfortunately, unless you can organize an exhibition with a few friends and form a consensus about the display, you are at the hands of well meaning but often amateur organizers with very different priorities to your own.

Actually this exhibition was conducted by a woodworking club and the display was work made by its members to showcase their work and give them an opportunity to sell it. Also most club members, being the exhibitors themselves, seemed involved in running the event, your concerns seems unfounded.
I also noticed that quite a few members made different types of work, as I noticed some bowls sitting on top of a side table all made by the same person.
Peter.

Sorry to hear Alan, hope all is well.
Thanks for your support Peter. Yes, the whole event is organised and run by it's members. The exhibition space is always kindly donated by the council. It's a stunning venue, almost all mud brick with natural wood columns.-Scott
