Default ET never made it home...

It appears ET crashed into a tree instead of making it home...

Ohhhh, poor ET - now his face is even more flat! Not often would you call a slab of timber 'cute' - but this time I think it sums it up for me!

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Oges
The comments on the Ebay were quite interesting to me.

As I remember after cyclone tracy it was requested to remove what African mahogany trees were left as they were very shallow rooted and would blow over quite easliy in a bit of a blow.

I know a bloke up there who owns busniess in Darwin and he as a side line has been slabbing up the African mahogany for at least 5 years I know of. What would happen is that Landscapers ect who were removing these trees would drop them off at his place instead of taking them to the tip where they would be charged for disposing of them.

About 800 KLM's to the east as the crow flys is a mining town called Nhulunbuy where I came from 2 years ago (I was there for 12 years). One day I was down the tip and a big tree trunk (African Mahogany) was being burn't. I found out that it had grown up to close to power lines and had to be removed. I made some enquires at the council and asked if I could slab up some of the timber instead of it going to waste. They said go for it. I purchased a chainsaw and slabbing mill and after 5 years brought about 10 - 15 cubic meters down to where I am now. I must admit it was hard work but I am very pleased I done it.

Last I heard from one of the council blokes was that African mahogany was going to be classed as a weed, one of the reasons is it has such a prolific growth.

I also read that because the conditions in the Territory are so good for this fast growing tree that it was going to be farmed. In about 10-15 years you can get a pretty big tree.

    Cheers
