Is it a musical box?(hights of the movement.)

Yes it is a music box..... wind up key on the bottom, turntable on top.
By "hights" I meant the metal turntable's shaft was about 1/4" longer then needed. I couldn't cut it because the threads didn't go up all the way, so had to make the box body taller by adding an extra ring at the bottom.

And if anyone might be interested in making boxes like this.... yes... we do sell the movements

Mmmm... I think you're right, it's missing something. Maybe the central column should be a darker colour than the figures, so the individual figures stand out more clearly?

Given your choice of wood, perhaps a judiciously applied bit of stain would make for a simple fix?

There's no central column..... these are two parts pushed together to make 3D.
And...... of course I already glued them on..... and..... I have never stained this type of ply before..... wouldn't know what colour... and ha.... it's already OILED..... lol
Think I don't really have a choice.... either leave it alone and give it as a present to someone who likes it the way it is, or redo the top from scratch.....
Have a piece of claret ash sitting here..... it's calling to me.... wanting to be transfered into angels..... maybe...
