Just Finished Today
I have been working on this for a little while, as I can only work one day a week.
Last year a bloke came to me & asked me to make a top & bottom for his vivarium (spelling).
Any way, he has been on the look out for a table to sit it on & finished up bringing me a photo of one he had seen with the H,W &D measurments he wanted.
It was an interesting little project & I enjoyed making it.
Hope you like it to.

Good job Steve. Well done
It's a bummer only having limited time isn't it. Everything takes forever to finish.

Thanks Kev,
While my issue is time, it's more to do with my back, it's past it's useby date.
due to having a screwed back, it takes me so long to do all the other jobs around the house, that I can only afford one day per week, but f I had more time, I still would only be able to do about one day per week because of pain & recovery issues.
Not winging though, my dad who is 84 drives down every friday morn and arrives about 8:45am. Then we have a coffee together & sort out the problems that our fearless leaders have created, & a few of the worlds problems, & then we hook up the caravan & drag that out of the way & usually start bright and early around 10ish.
My dad always brings down lunch, he's not a bad cook either, & we sit that on the pot belly mistake rectifier & work till our lunch break. After lunch, we work till about 2:45 then I have to go & pick up the Rugrat & get some meat for the Friday night BBG,Bourbon & Bullsh*t session. About 4:00ish, we start to put the tools away & clean up where the van goes & dad usually heads off home.
I love my woodwork, it keeps me sane, but it is by far the best day of the week. we are very slow, & we never rush. we get a few orders, we try to work to a standard rather than a deadline. This is only the second completed project this year, the other was a king single bed for my daughter. The next is a small table & chair for SWAMBO to groom our dogs on.
Anyway, enough rambling.
Thanks for your nice comments.

Nice work Steve.

I like your philosophy and envy you that you are able to share this with your father. Woodwork for me is partly about de-stressing from a stressful job. I am nearing retirement and hope to develop skills to make it worth while after I pull the pin. Posts like this encourage me. Loved your project too

G'day Harry, hows that lil leanto going mate.
Thanks fellas, for your encouragement.
TT, I started dragging my dad down one day a week, just to get him out of the house after mum died. now, he loves it as much as I do. He recons he doesn't do much, but thats not true. If I'm feeding timber from one end, he's catching at the other. If I'm marking where a hole has to go, dad is getting the drill, bit & extension cord ready. We have not always got on as well as we do now, but we have always worked well together. Dad was a mechanic & when I was learning how to rebuild / repair engines, nothing I did was good enough. now he recons I'm fussy. Can't imagine where I picked that trait up from.
He was also a founding member of the St John Ambulance Brigade in our town, & we did that together for a while. He was the local Fire Chief & we even fought a bush fire together once, I wasn't on the team, but this one was close to home.
yep, its fair to say I love spending time with my dad, & when he can't drive the 40min to come down any more, I'll gladly go & get him.

Great work, Ticky, and a lovely story to go with it. My Dad's on the other side of the world, so we don't have a regular date set up, but when we're together our day sounds much like yours.
I hope you don't mind, but I've stolen a quote from you for my signature - see below.Cheers, Richard

Nice work Steve and great to hear the story about your Dad. You are not only making a nice piece of furniture, you are making some even nicer memories to cherish. How I wish I had given my Dad more of my time toward the latter part of his life. Now all too late I'm afraid. Goodonya

Looks great, what type of timber did you use?

Thanks John, Your right about the memories I guess. I hadn't really thought about it that way, but your right, nothing lasts for ever. The old bugger will prolly out last me.
I do look forward to our woodwork days nearly every week, & I know dad does to.
Spoonman, It's just pine. The legs are some pretty manky structual stuff I picked up at a building site & the rest is just 290 x 19 board I had in the rack. I had everything except the draw slides & the stain, I think it is just Cabbotts Walnut from memory.
Cheers
