Great bench, all the essentials, looks great. Please post a pic when you have USED it - a few dings, blotches of paint etc - just to prove you were game enough to use it!!!! I nearly cried the first time I dinged my new one and it doesn't look as good as yours.
Great work

Terrific bench, TassieKiwi.
Sure shows the mark of care and patience. Well done.
Don't be afraid to use it. If a man can make a bench that nice, I'm sure he can utilise it to create even nicer (sellable, as in, for profit) bits and pieces.
With a name like TassieKiwi, you'd have to have land rights everywhere. That could come in handy.
Once again, great work.

No worries about using it - I've read all about the purists with no power tools near, bowing to the tin god of New England, ra ra ra....this is a WORK bench, so it will be treated like the other tools; harsh but fair. Thanks for the encouragement guys, BTW. Maybe no paint spatters, though.

Very nice TassieKiwi! Thought I was going overboard with two 25mm mdf sheets as top....obviously I am a complete hack!

Great looking bench TassieKiwi. From the look of that bench top, you may have a few issues when it comes to the twin screw vice if you planning on the Veritas. I fitted one on my bench a while ago after it was built and had a hell of a time doing it. You'd be surprised how restrictive the dimensions are for fitment.
All the best,
Al.

TassieKiwi,
You used crappy tassie oak?? Man, that's firewood around here. Kidding!
That is a great bench and will be a hard act to follow when I try and build myself a new one.

TassieKiwi,Great looking sturdy workbench but now that you've made one you'll find you'll probably need to make another some time down the track.
Excellent job that should well and truly stand the test of time and tools.

Thanks again for the encouragement men - very uplifting!! SWMBO is still asking when I'm going to MAKE SOMETHING instead of 'playing with the bloody bench'.
Big Al - what will be the restricting dimension for a twin-screw - thickness?
ernKnot - that's exactly what happens to the plate once the pieces get too small - firewood! This is after many uses though.
John Saxton - this WAS supposed to be the 'rough' quick bench to get me going, but the timber came up so nice when I planed it that it morphed into something a little less rough. At least it didn't take 8 years:eek: . You may be right about makingg another, but it will have to be after a fair few pieces of furniture though. The only way to get rid of a [Domino] temptation is to yield to it. Oscar Wilde
