Nice effort, what timbers did you use?
Quite colourful and certainly noticeable ,however a suggestion if I may in being a little circumspect when using two distinct coloured timbers.
Look forward to seeing more of your WW ventures.

Looks cool, if you make a set of 3 of them reducing in size it'd be even better!
With a name like nerobass there should be a 12"sub hangin out of it....................................................................

Looks great Nero, well done and hope you pass. When you do, will that be "bass relief?"

Hey thanks for all the good replies...
The box is made from hoop pine joined together by finger joints. (shame you cannot see them) the veneer checks are Silky Oak and Hoop Pine, the edgeing im not too sure but i think it is jarra or something similar..
John: Im not quite sure what your adivice is? are you saying be carful of using contrasting timbers as sometimes they do not look good together?
Oh and my next project is a box for the top. As you can see the edging inside does not come right up to the top this is so i can place a document box ontop =D..
Any ideas on a "process" that is used in mass prodction that could be used to add to this box? A process is something liek injection molding, fibre glassing etc.. but i would like to do something in timber...
Cheers

Hi,while you've got a great noticable and functional blanket box with the contrasting timbers it certainly stands out and that was probably your intention I would hazard a guess.
I'm not intending to be criticising rather making an observation that in using contrasting coloured timbers its viewed in a contempory sense that furniture well made looks great if the piece is predominately made from one source of timber with the other contrasting timber put in place to highlight it's fine features but usually not in equal proportions.
Those are two nice timbers you've used Silky Oak and Hoop Pine keep up the good work in your woodworking.
CheersJohnno

thanks for the comment you would be correct in guessing that i intended for the box to stand out.. but i also did some research and found that a check pattern while contempory is actually will also fit in a with a traditional setting.. the addition of the metal gives it a slightly industiral feel... The one thing i notice is that the squares a quite large.. i initally intended to use smaller squares all round the box (same size for all faces) but ran out of time. The larger squares are actually quite overwhelming and hard to grasp =P LOL
I believe you can take the harshest criticism and walk away with some advice ahah and this being my first attempt at timber work i shall keep you recomendation in mind for future reference =D thank you
Cheers

Hey NeroB! I like it!
I'd rather have forgone the corner metal strips, but the box is different and, as I've said, I like it! Good go!

the corner strips were mostly there to surve a purpose.. That purpose being to stop the edge of the veneer chipping if someone walked past and clothing etc got caught.. I got my mark today -A.. haha im pleased with the mark i missed out on an A becuase of a few glue marks still visiable inside the box =( oh and i didnt punch in two nail on the inside of the lid =( oh well im still top of the class =D haha..
