Talking My First Home Made Hand Plane

I ran out of Money and got bored so I went looking for some Wood I found an old Jarrah post holding up one end of our grape vine. So I lopped a foot of from the top. I made a pocket hole jig with some and used the rest for a new toy. I like the control when you draw a plane toward you so with that in mind I built this little beauty!!! for just that purpose. The body comes from the post, the sides from an old plywood draw base laminated together to give some substance to the side of the plane. I hade some steel rod so had a chance to try my new Tap & Die set out. Made the wedge to hold the blad but made it to alsdo act as the chip breaker. It works and the shaving are great and fine. Oh the blade comes from a chinese pressed steel cheapy. I'll salvage the handles later but the rest gets thrown. So have a look and let me know what youy thing of my attempt at wood working.

Get into a local thumb wrestling group. That will sort out your thumbs.

    Cheers,
It's a draw plane. You'll have to find an index finger exercise, the thumbs are just steering.

    Default Thanks Fuzzie

I know my write up was long winded but I did mention draw plane in it. The knobs were the only things I could find that made it manageble as it is only 14.5 cm long I try pushing and it acts like a block plane. But when I draw it its like silk even better to use for bevels. The knobs do make it easier to handle but I can't take credit for that it was just dumb luck. I think it looks funny too but it does shave better than my smoothing plane.
