Fly Tying Station
Hi all
Well I have just finished making a fly tying station for my Brother for his birthday this weekend, I used some Victorian Ash tongue and groove flooring that my father in law was going to throw out .
I have only been woodworking for around a year and most of that time has been spent organising the workshop, so this is the first official piece of furniture to come out of the new shop.

I've been tying for 40 years. Never seen a board that looked so comfortable.
Three things:
1. I see what looks like a rubbish slot. That's good.
2. Any way you have ever found to keep the cat from "playing" with feathers & threads? Do you know how long a spool of floss really is?
3. I'm in the habit of putting a whip finish on my flies. Then a drop of head cement. I see no place to hang them up to dry. Is there one?

Thanks Robson
Yes it is a rubbish slot so all your off cuts just fall into the draw, I am not to sure if its cat proof, as they could still get to the threads but as long as they can't open the draw then the rest of your feathers should be ok .
As for the drying station, I have a block of self healing foam that I use, seems to work well and you can place it anywhere, but having a designated spot on the tying station for drying could be a good idea , I will be making myself one later as this can be the prototype.

Thanks
I think that I posted pix of mine a while back. The vise is on a simple arch of 1 x 4 at the left side of a simple board of ply. Under the arch are 2 x #14 copper wires that I hang my flies on for the head dope to dry.
I painted my entire rig white. Sloppy primer, whatever it was. But, I find it easier to focus on the work against a white background. What I really want to set up is a mirror so that I can see the off-side.

Nice...
But you do realise that one draw just isnt enough for all the paraphernalia that any fly tyer collects !!!!!
I have a 7 draw Plano tackle box for all my stuff and it's still only just enough.
Seriously though...nice neat solution to the normal messy desk.
Well done.
Steven.
