The wonders of the internet......I came across some videos of this project and was hooked by the simplicity of making accurate parts to make the sphere.
I used some old hardwood floorboards and machined them to size and went from there. Everything is done on a table saw and you just need a packet of rubber bands to finish the project. There are 20 hexagonal and 12 pentagonal pieces and a bunch of rubber bands.
The assembly is not exactly easy as you really need three hands sometimes but eventually it went together. It is officaly called a Geodesic Sphere Truncated Icosahedron but it is easier to call it a football puzzle.
