Here goes nothing...
Really admire the craftmanship shown in this forum and aspire to be half as good as some of the stuff I've seen here.
Made some Chrissie presents for family and friends, here is a couple.
These are a little rough and ready but I'm still trying to work out a lot of basics.
Based on the Fold Out Picture Frame in Australian Woodsmith (Issue 49, Page 36)
Used 2mm glass and 12mm and 19mm pine stock (plan calls for 11mm & 18mm + 2.5mm Perspex, no thicknesser or planing skills)
Also had real trouble with the hardwood splines and drilling holes for pins so used hinges on the side instead:eek:
Made up enough bits to make 3 of these, 2 worked out just fine, No3, well, a brain fart happened.
I very cleverly fixed the back frame in backwards:eek:
Luckily it still makes a nice stand alone frame.
The magazine said "Weekend Project", about 4 weekends for my paltry skills.
In the middle ( got quite shirty with the frames, needed a break) I used a English(?) Oak offcut given to me to whip up a weather station, my first and probably last.
Be kind.

G'Day Cruzi
The picture frame looks great, I'm sure whoever is receiving it as a Chrissy present will be very appreciative. The fact that you improvised with the plans shows skill alone.
There are some very skilled craftsmen who contribute to this forum and they set the bar pretty high when it comes to displaying their work. I think in the last few days words like "ordinary" or "rough and ready" have been used with way too much modesty. Your work shows that you can play with the best of them.
Oh, and I'll be chasing up a back issue of Aussie Woodsmith for those plans, that looks like a great gift.
Well done!
regards
Manix

Don't underestimate yourself Cruzi! They all look fine to me. Admittedly, there is some major talent on this forum but good photography can hide a lot of stuff-ups too. I saw that fold-out frame article and it never ocurred to me that they would make good crissie prez's - maybe next year - well done mate!
