Default End grain cutting board ad nauseum

I know that just lately, there has been many of these posted, so I thought that I would jump on the band wagon and do one for my self. Nothing special, just one of radiata pine.
    It's 500 x 280 x 40 thick.

Well! This is a "first." = Somebody actually took advantage of end grain for the design. How peculiar! I'd like that in my kitchen.

That looks so much better than the usual high contrast cutting boards.
I have made a note not to show this to my daughter

I have to admit that there was no plan, I just alternated every second piece and that's how it ended up. When I do another one, I will make sure that I plan it a little better.

All I really wanted to do was try one for ourselves, as the long grain board that I had made warped uncontrollably and we needed a new one.

My brother commissioned a big, end-grain cutting board which sits at countertop height on its own stand. The thing is a piece of modern art. He was chopping spare ribs on it with a camp hatchet when I arrived!
As soon as I saw yours, I understood what I didn't like about my brother's board = too busy with all sorts of little sticks (still, interesting woods).

Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas-fir, possibly known to you as Oregon) is a conifer with reasonable hardness and a very abrupt finish to each growth ring, a little tighter and harder than Pinus radiata. I suggest you give it some passing consideration.

    Thumbs up

    Very artistic old mate!!

I love end grain and I've often wondered why so little advantage is taken of it.
