    Default guitars

    Hi,
Some of you expressed interest in my guitars, so i have posted a few piccies. Unfortunately I don't have any WIP shots of the electric, fairly simple none the less.

The electric is a Gibson Les Paul style. The front is made from flame birds eye maple, the back is jarrah. Trust me to use heavy timber - it is slightly heavier than regular Gibsons. The neck is Rock Maple with a jarrah veneer on the headstock. The pickups are PAF Classic Humbuckers, with DiMarzio tuner pots and switches. This is my first attempt at making a guitar and I am really happy with the sound.

The other guitar is an archtop acoustic. I was very reluctant in making this guitar because I had never tried making an archtop, let alone a regular acoustic guitar. I always seem to jump into the deep end. So as a 'practice' run, I decided to use non-exotic timber to keep costs down. The body is Kauri Pine on the front back and sides, with fiddleback tassie oak centrally on the front and back. The dark strips are african wenge on front and back. In hindsight, I shouldn't have used the tassie oak on front as it reduces the reverberation produced by the strings. Nonetheless, it sounds good. The neck is also tassie oak with an east indian rosewood fingerboard.

Both guitars are finished off in Durobond 851 Guitar Lacquer. Great stuff.

Oh and the table is made from a slab of river red gum. Weighs a tonne!
    Just a hobbie of mine.
    Cheers.

Very nice work Woodwad. I've always coveted an arch top, ever since I played a mate's Joe Pass Blonde Ibanez. Cool as....

In a word - WOW. You obviously live by the 'no such word as CAN'T' slogan & then acquire the skills to follow through with a great result as well! Great guitars, both - and my hat's off to you.

Are you studying something to do with woodwork at Uni?

Okay - since you obliged with the pics of the guitars (thank you very much), NOW I want to see that table!!!

    Cheers,

    Jill

    WoodWad,

extremely nice guitars! You could have chambered the Les Paul body to reduce the weight a bit - that's what Gibson does.

Thanks to everyone for your interest. I hope to bring more and better 'work' from the 'wood... works'

Are you studying something to do with woodwork at Uni?
Hi Jill. I am studying Architecture at UNSW, so I try to make my studies and my creativity work hand in hand.

    Once again, thanks all.

    woodwad, very nice.

Thanks for the pics and explanation re there make.

I made a guitar for a friends daughter a while back for her year 12 project that looks just like your les paul re the shape and the layout.
She had to do the design ect and keep a record of how she came to the design that she liked the most ect.
She did help a little bit in the making (she sanded) but got a perfect 20 for her mark, sorry no pics.

one of these days I will get around to making one for myself.

    Cheers Ian
