One happy customer
So finally after several months, many design changes, numorous delays along with some interesting issues the round Jarrah dining table is done completed and delivered to its new owners who were shall we just say happily rapt with it
Not only a happy customer but also a majorly happy maker!! I mean I gots seriously paid for this table!!! WHAHOOOOOOOOOO!! hey does that make me a carpenter? or am I just one lucky woodbutcher? either way it was a great journey
Ive posted a few pics of her in her new home under different light to show the grain effect... this particular lot of Jarrah has changed my view of this timber previously id always viewed jarrah as boring and a timber to be used in conjunction with some other wood for highlight but on its own this wood is gorgeous... mind you its bloody old as! but anyway
number 1 is inside with the curtains open taken against the light
number 2 is the top... lookit that bloody grain!!! Amazing!
number 3 is all done finished and delivered
number 4 is outside closeup of one section in the sunlight
number 5 is outside while we waited for the missus to come home and open up so we could deliver it and recieve accolades money and coffee
Gotta feel bloody good about that!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Beautiful work, Ding. Must have been hard to let it go, even with the exchange of cash?

Actually Brendan it wasnt hard at all to let it go at all... damned thing had been driving me nuts!! with the shed badly organized as it was at the time it was right in the middle of everything and got in the way of everything and just plain gave me the irrots with its damned obstroplessness... but really it was a fun build very enjoyable even with the top doin a bow at each end the first top cracking up and dying and having to remake it... funny the easiest to do were the legs which I thought would give me no end of problems getting stable and level but not a murmur from them... the top was a whole other matter entirely!
Now of course her friends all want one... she has rung 3 times now asking if Id like to make another... and my missus wants one although that doesnt make sence even to her since we have no room to put anything let alone a table... but one of these round tables is enough I reckon even given the money this lady paid... which I will admit I personally wouldnt have paid for what after all is essentially just a dining table!
I actually think I must have underpriced myself as she didnt murmur a heartbeat at the price I quoted her... no problem at all... in cash on delivery (and the reason we had to wait while she was at the bank) mmm maybe I better revise my pricing structure seriously upward! all in all great stuff!! her hubby was pretty chuffed with it when he came home so a good job... nothing like happy customers I say
Now for my next adventure!!
cross posting there jacko... will see if Ive got any from the build itself and post one... as to finish well... I mean... eeerrr would you believe... sealer then 9 coats of marine varnish that I had laying around waiting for me to build a boat followed by the application of a bottle of Marveer furniture polish? then ####eloads of polishing by hand... damned polisher shat itself didnt it  took over 2 weeks to get the finish to the level I was happy with but it worked
Okay the other pics are on the laptop which is still with the techno git up in Perth... may get it back either the end of this week or sometime next week
But essentually its as you can see a trestle type the 2 rails are tenoned through the legs... the uprights of the 2 legs are "lap jointed" (I think thats the right term essentially I cut halfway through both peices and took out half the thickness of both and joined them so they become one) through the 2 bases and that is joined to the feets... at the top under the table top itself which you cant see are two cleats that bisection the top and the legs attached to them by way of above described "lap joints" and fastened with hand made Jarrah trenails or dowels these are then connected by even more Jarrah trenails to the top itself... the plans I used called for no centre cleat I however decided to put one through the midsection of the table which ended up being too small in width and thickness for the weight of the Jarrah top so it bent downwards... I then got two 8in x 1in Jarrah boards and put them under the top this solved the problem totally
Intention was as with the first one I did to use no metal fastenings in its build this one unlike the other ended up having those two boards screwed to the top no problem
I found the initial plan here
Once I get the laptop back I will try doing a blow by blow of the build I know Ive got pics of the whole process... as usual nowadays I make one as a trial peice making as many of the mistakes as I can and usually stuff it up totally then make another and take pics of the process so you get to see all me good work and none of the stuffups... unless something has me baffled like the bow that happened to this one then I will ask
Cheers!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Dingo,
That table is seriously beautiful. I love the colour and grain of the wood. I never thought the words "elegant" and "Wild Dingo" would ever be associated but there's no other word for it, the design of the table is truly elegant.

Well, Well, Well Dingo.
A little bit of moonlighting going on.
I was wondering why everything had been so quite down the other end of the forum for a bit.
And I suppose that you will say that you can't build a boat now because you have no vernish left.
But on the other hand - a rather lovely TABLE.

Great piece of work. I love the way you brought the grain out, but as you say, lots of coats and even more sanding and polishing.
Looking forward to seeing the photos of the legs, too because the style looks impressive.

Good to see you do more than just spend all your time typing!!! Beautiful table Dingo! Dark timbers get me everytime and that finish looks great - but I can understand you wanting to be rid of it after all the hassle straightening the top!!!

That's a class act - it's nice to know it's being appreciated by the owners. Did you remember to attach your makers plate?
Have they thought of ordering matching chairs?
