This heat scares me
My nearly empty tin of paint stripper had been bulging, which was scary enough...I'd open it and a rush of air would shoot out.
But then it started doing this (pics).
It was when it started whistling tonight (while I was using it - decanting a little into another pot then resealing) that I thought I'd better just crack it open for good and get the dregs out.
And if you've never seen it...this is something similar happening instantaneously to a REINFORCED fuel tanker!!!Every time you make a typo, the errorists win.

Not just tins I am worried about. Been too darned hot to be in my shed at all. Time to get some insulation for the roof.

I'm also worried as to what it's doing to my timber.
The weather is so bad that I've got nowhere to acclimatise pieces...the house is just as intolerable as the shed...
But my impersonation of a sweaty Niagara Falls is without faultEvery time you make a typo, the errorists win.

I only noticed because of the metallic popping and banging sounds, and you know exactly how hot it's been here lately.
No other tins have suffered the same fate, but they also haven't been used/opened.
My plastic bottled metho and turps however are ridiculously warm to the touch but, so far, haven't exploded.Every time you make a typo, the errorists win.

Hoey:
I'd love to show you what temperature does to our work, but unfortunately I haven't got anything to show atm...I'm just worried about my stacks and what to do with them for later when the local weather is so insanely hot (then goes crazy cold in winter).
Just imagine...it's summer and you're sweating your ass off making a dining table....build success!!!!....then a few months later it's winter and your customer comes to you complaining that the top has split/shrunk and has cracks all over it.
It's something not often mentioned...on big jobs especially...that the timber has to be acclimatized to the place that it's going to reside and the temperature/humidity that it's going to live in. Esp with furniture...
Here, I can' escape the heat at all...it's a worry if I ever take on big jobs again....but it's worth nothing that the temp applies even to small jobs...timber at 45deg C isn't that same at 25deg C.Every time you make a typo, the errorists win.

For too long I have just avoided the shed during Jan & Feb as it is like a bakers oven so with the cool change due tomorrow its off to get stuck in to the insulation. Like you say that kind of heat is no good for no good for the wood either and I have noticed some of my wooden planes suffering too.

John

It will only occur if there is only a small amount of liquid, it turns to vapor which reduces the internal pressure so the outside pressure is greater

I use polystyrene foam boxes, from the fuit and veg shop. They are brilliant storage boxes in the shed.
Insulated and dust proof.
All free too.
