    Default Home built Router Table

    Hi all,

Thought I'd share some pics of my recently completed router table. Like a lot of people I started with a Triton table which served me well for many years but a couple of years back I "upgraded" to a more solid cast top with sliding table. After some frustrating times with this I decided to make my own.

    Features I wanted....
    1. FLAT top
    2. FLAT top
    3. storage for jigs, bits, tools, manuals etc etc
    4. good dust extraction...something I liked on the triton
    5. decent high fence
    6. good looking

With that I got a few Kreg bits & pieces, scored some 35mm benchtop for free (laminated both sides) and chopped up some hardwood flooring for the frame which are dominoed and recessed ply panels.

Hope you like I have some WIP pics too if any one is interested.

    1. & 2. completed project
    3. triton mounted to kreg plate
    4. storage for books/manuals, gifkins jig, dewalt used with leighjig, router bits, spanners/inserts/collets etc etc
    5. leigh jig with VRS and hose etc lives underneath
    6. dust extraction & wiring...router plugged in under top and power point on back both come on when switched on
    7. 1/16" shims for outfeed fence when jointing

Very nice job - well done

A few good ideas in there for everyone - I know I certainly need to build a higher fence as you have done !

Can I ask how flat the red inserts in the Kreg plate sit in relation to the rest of the plate, and do the inserts have any adjustment to level them up?

    Cheers

    Thanks Mr Brush,

the red inserts fit really well and are flush, they have 3 allen key adjustment screws and 3 screws that hold it to the plate...probably spent 5 minutes on each insert getting it spot on.

    Cheers

Cheers Redgy - that's what I was hoping.

Time to replace my existing plate with the Kreg version I think......

I hope my planned router tables works out half as well as yours.

What to you use to hold the fence on? I couldn't see anything like t-track etc.

    Geoff,

It's held on with wooden L shaped blocks/clamps that clamp under the sides...5/16" bolt up through fence with star knob to tighten, requires minimal tightening for very secure clamping pressure. Can see one side in 2nd last photo. I used a chunk of 60mm thick redgum I had laying around.

    Cheers

    Default Treat it

Lovely job. I built a similar one many years ago, still use it. Only my birch veneer panels have gone a bit mouldy black in places as stored in less than perfect conditions & I never got around to treat it ! So if you haven't I recommend giving it a protective coat or two of something.

    Thanks Redgy,
I was planning to us t-track but your idea looks simpler.

That's a serious looking (orange) power cord to the bench. Does it all (router, vacuum) run from a standard 10A GPO?

Geoff, when I built the shed & wired it (sparky by trade) I put a couple of 15A outlets in on their own circuits...so yes it all runs from 1 but not 10A.

I thought about T track as well as a back up plan if the clamp arrangement didn't work well. But it works better than I expected and means 2 less grooves in the top

    Cheers

When I saw the vacuum running from the router table, I went looking at the Triton site to double check the current drawn. Disappointed
I only have a double 10A GPO in my shed so I might have to get it changed to a single 15A - or perhaps a lead from the unused 3 phase plug? Trouble is, sparkies are so expensive

Re the t-track, you could perhaps run it along the edge in place of the blocks you're using? I was planing something like that after seeing this youtube video - warning, it's in German.

Honestly everyone should watch that video. It is full of really great and SAFE ideas for the router table.
I found it gave me quite a few ideas as I also plan on building a router table.

There seems to be so many ways to go about building a router table depending on your needs.
