Thread: Home made sand-flee drum sander

I have built a home made sand-flee drum sander. The sand-flee looks like a great product and my home made version sure as hell makes sanding a ease.

The housing is built from 10mm ply (two sheets laminated together to make 20mm), The drum is about 26 x16mm mdf circles that are about 12cm in diameter. The discs are glued together onto a rod before being fitted onto bearings and bolted into the box.

The motor is from my first table saw I bought from Bunnings (a ozito thing - if you want to call it a table saw) and the motor is attached to the drum by a belt and two pullys.

Total cost was about $130 (the bearing and pullys being the most expensive components)

It works a treat, and is great for boxes and the like. Most of the dust falls into the box and I just suck it out when needed. I will be connecting a dust port onto the help minimize the dust.

The sandpaper is the velcro backed sandpaper and to cover the drum requires about 2 meters of paper. The drum is covered in the loop part of the velcro and it is very quick and easy to change sandpaper.

Currently I have a 10mm top on it but am finding this to be a bit to thin so I will change it to something a bit more thicker and rigid.
