    Default Inlay bowl.

A small Darwin Black wattle bowl 180mm X 100mm with a crused stone (Malachite) inlay. The stone was set with thin CA glue and shaped with 80 grit paper working down to about 1200 then polished with EEE. Bowl finnished with danish Oil. I would imagine there would be danger of pulling out the stone if gouges etc were used so it the 80 grit tool.

What Harry said about some more pics, please.

I really like your imaginative use of the malachite - its a good combination with the acacia.

To set the malachite into the top rim I cut a channell trying to follow the shape of the wall, then I put the crushed stone into the channel, then applied thin CA glue. I built up the depth with 3 or 4 applications - stone then CA. The top of the rim looked a bit of a mess - lumpy with sharp bits of stone but this sanded down ok. I tried to ensure that all voids were filled. After sanding i again checked for voids then filled with thick CA. There weren't many but this gave the rim a smoother feel.

"Reeves" -the stone was shaped using sandpaper.I used scraper to carefully remove the wood on either side of the channel the the sanding.

Peter, where did you get the crushed malachite. Is it readily available?

    Opal chips would look good.
Malachite has all the shades of green to nearly black normally in swirls
but its a shame to break it up.
