Jarrah Dining Table
Hi Guys,
Just completed this new design here, this is the second of this series that we have now completed.
This one features a pyramid shaped base with internal led lighting, we achieve this by inserting frosted acrylic panels in each face.
The stainless steel panels have been laser cut, and mounted via threaded inserts.
The LED lighting can be powered via 240v or via a rechargeable battery pack.
The top and base are some nice old Jarrah that we have had here for a while.
We will have this one at the Perth wood show in a week or 2 if anyone wants a closer look, thanks for stopping by.
cheers
Brad

We need someone like yourself to come up with a matching chair design.
I`ve been trying to come up with something, but all i`ve managed so far is a headache

That's pretty nice.
I've had an idea for a while to make some sort of light enclosure from some birdseye blackbutt I've got here. I though I could slice it into veneers, which would produce something like Swiss cheese. They would be used to make panels for the sides and the light would shine through the holes, a bit like your table base.
I was worried about the heat though, but I guess LED's run a lot cooler. What's the surface temperature like after it's been on for a while?"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

Thanks for the kind words guys,
Wongo i can imagine those chairs of yours would have caused the odd sleepless night, don't think i`d have enough panadol to go through that
They turned out just stunning though and well worth the time and effort.
This design turned out quite different to how we first imagined, i was going to mount the stainless panels inside the timber frame but it somehow looked better protruding via 20mm spacers.
It`s funny how designs change during the build process.
We will get a lot of mileage out of this design as were doing a desk with one of these, and a longer table with 2 pyramids under there.
Just trying to design a box to house the battery for those that want to run it without 240v power. We will have some different patterns laser cut into the next lot too.
Here`s a short youtube clip

Thanks for looking guys

Yep I like it - unlike a lot of these types of designs seems to work very nicely.
What about a wireless power system. The transformer sits elsewhere in the room (even in the ceiling cavity) and sends the power via a 1000 Hz radio wave to a receiver in the table which converts it back to DC. You might be able to use the SS as the aerial? This is the future of all lower power charging devices but I can't see why it would not work for low level LED lighting systems.
see Demonstration video | Wireless Power Transmission Modules | Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
to meet legal they recommend only close distances but I'm sure higher power further distance systems will eventually become available.
Only one problem, it's probably not approved for use in AUS yet - we might get it in 10 years time!
