King Single Bed
Here's a king single bed I made for my daughter. It's Tas Oak, with pine slats. The side rails are joined to the bed ends by special bed hardware so you can knock it down for easy transport. I made the design up as I went along but it's pretty much a standard colonial style.

"king single" -- is that different from a normal single, or is it a different size of mattress?
Very nice looking bed. Are the legs just a tad thin in the head--foot direction?
What was the finish? I like the lightness of it.Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Normal single is 90 cm x 188 cm, while a king single is 107 cm x 203 cm. I used 36 mm timber for the legs and it seems to be plenty adequate for strength. The photo makes it look thinner. I finished it using Wattyl Water Based Estapol Clear (Speed Clear) in satin. This was a project I finished last year, if I was doing it again I might use Danish Oil, but the Speed Clear is a pretty good product if you want to maintain the light colour.

"king" Single-
That is where the king of the house sleep when the Queen kicks him out of bed.
Nice job on the bed, kinda mission style but not. looks Morish. I think that the bed is underreted as for wood working projects. Really only 4 main joint have to hold up to a lot of use.JunkBoy999

That's a very attractive bed Custos . Nice sample of Tas Oak and a good finish . My preference would have been for a more substantial leg too .Great Job .
PeterI've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

Good job custos. I dont think I agree with the thick leg preference shown by some, I like the look of the legs as they are. To me it seems to flow if you get what Im saying.
Again, I like it.

Yup Boban me too, thick square legs would look to heavy for a single bed, be Ok on a double tho IMHO

Thanks for the feedback guys. Actually Harry, a few years ago I made a Queen size bed using pretty much the same style. I still only used 36 mm Tas Oak for the legs then as well but didn't taper them (see photo). The bed is rock solid after three years (with the usual use ) so I guess it's okay. The King Single was for my daughter so I wanted it to be less "blocky", hence the tapered legs.
