    Default Krenov inspired cabinet

Now that i've had some time to make sawdust i decided to finish off a project that's been sitting in the garage for about 4 years. A Krenov-ish style upright cabinet. It's not totally done in that the shelving/drawers on the inside are not yet done but the bulk of it is. Being impatient i really wanted to see what it was going to look like in the house

The legs are made of figured silky oak that taper up from the bottom and down from the top. The carcass (including the back) is New Guinea Rosewood with edge accents in Purpleheart. Handle is also Purpleheart. The curved door is carved out of four pieces of NG Rosewood stacked in a wine barrel style. The total height is about 1600mm.

Finished off in 2 coats of Minwax wipe-on poly (satin) sanded to 600 grit, then a coat of Ubeaut traditional wax.

    Hi Johnny,

What the others said. Just beautiful, and simple. I really like it also.

Particularly like the Silky Oak legs, almost leopard spots. Well done. Do post us the final version with the the shelves and drawers.

    Cheers

The style and wood selection of this cabinet look terrific. A great way to showcase your woodworking talent and some beautiful timbers.

Wow - striking cabinet! Well done. Love the handle - can I ask how you managed to shape that?

    Cheers,
    Gibbo.

oh thanks everyone for your kind comments. Gibbo, the handle was simply shaped from a blank about 100x30x20 using a sanding disc. I used a sanding drum on the drill press to shape the concave areas on the sides. The rest was hand sanded. Purpleheart can be kinda difficult to sand cos it is quite hard but once done it takes finishes really well.

    thanks again

    Good looking cabinet Woodwad.
    I like the timber combination.

Are you going to make a mini set of drawers to go inside the cabinet?
