Nice work. Nothing like a mantle shelf to set off a room. They are the sort of project the router was made for.

It will be painted satin white as it is only pine. He was going to stain it, but I suggested it would still look like pine. It is completely dowelled together, but not yet glued, so easier to paint.
Fixings are behind the corbels and the lower plinths. The fluted palisters are actually 19mm with a 19mm strip behind each edge to give the appearance of 38mm. I can see the need for a large bevelled mirror to go above it coming up.
