Mirror frame in marri and aluminium
Picked up this old (and very heavy!) mirror a few months ago off ebay for $15 with the intention of framing it to use as a vertical mirror in the new WIR. I had some lengths of marri left over from doing the living room floor and wanted to use it to continue the theme through the house. The aluminium extrusion was left over from the external window weather strips so I thought I would combine the two. It is finished in burnishing oil and I am pretty happy with how it has come up, just need to get a length of 3ply to fix the mirror into it permanently.

Nice job! very nice figure. I have a couple of mirrors I picked up at a garage sale for free I need to frame up 1.5x1.5metres

love the look. It's great. Any ideas how you intend to hang it yet?
I've got a very heavy ebayed mirror about 1.5 x 1.5 that I'd like to hang flush on the wall. Just not sure how.

The mirror has four holes in it from where it was previously fixed to a wall so I intend to screw it to the wall via these holes using the mirror fastening fittings and caps that hide the screw head. I have seen them in Bunnings but the ones I saw were not the best looking chromed plastic ones. I have seen better ones fitted to mirors in comercial premises but have not found any yet - maybe from a glaziers or mirror shop.

My best mate rocked up this week with two lengths of Jarrah decking, two lengths of Australian Oak floorboards and a cheap mirror from bunnings to knock up a frame for above his mantle piece. A few hours over a couple of evenings and this is what we ended up with. Finished in white shellac and Trad wax. Came up real nice considering it was just Bunnings timber which was typically bowed and we used the "as bought" milled surfaces.
Always enjoyable working with a good mate and spending quality time.
