Modular stackable storage shelving
The junk room was getting just a bit TOO junky with the pile of camping gear, old books and toys, etc., so I designed this set of modular stackable storage shelves. They are made from 19 x 42 mm pine throughout, topped with a sheet of 12 mm MDF. Ozziejig joinery is used throughout, except the diagonal brace at the back which is glued and screwed to the legs.
The MDF top is located by 8 mm dowels which go through 8.5 mm holes in the MDF and are use to locate the module above, which has 8 mm holes drilled in the bottoms of the legs. The MDF tops are not glued, for ease of installation and removal.
The system is very stable, and provides a lot of surface area for storage. Dimensions can be altered to make shelving for other locations, but the idea of stacking identical modules and using dowels to lock them in place seems to work very well.
(I have been accused in the past of having a too-tidy shed, so I include a photo of a messy bench, just to prove that it does happen once in a while.)Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Mate thats not a messy bench... still plenty of real estate on it!
Looks like a problem solved, it's something most people need especially myself!
IMHO the front bottom legs might want a bit of bracing, a decent kick from a teenagers foot would snap 19/42mm with weight bearing down on it.....................................................................

Wendy: still plenty of room on the top two shelves (even got the ladder to get up there). Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.
