I have been making a few different musical boxes. It is a good way to use small pieces of timber and kids like them.

This is a boxed thumb piano also called a kalimba.

It is made of ply top and bottom seperated by blackwood sides.

One end of the box is solid to support the two bridges and retaining bar.

The tynes are made from rake tynes. I heated them with a burner and hammered thin the playing ends. Then shaped them on the grinder and polished them smooth.

They are cut overlength but can be cutoff even once it is tuned.
