Thanks for all the kind comments and encouragement. I think the design worked out well, but the execution could have been much better. in particular some lessons that i learned are: the grain matching in the pannels could have been much better, and the wood in the posts and headboard and footboard should have been more uniform. and as swmbo says, all the figure and spalting may be "just too much! I mean, isn't a bed supposed to be relaxing?" and I tend to agree.

Thanks for your compliments bro! yes, the posts are laminated. unfortunately I didn't have any 4"x4" maple posts. All the wood in both the left posts came from the same board, and same for the right. Ideally I would have made both the headboard posts out of the same board, but I didn't have enough wood (in one board)to do that. when the wood was rough sawn, I thought the left posts would have way less figure, and the right ones way more. I thought I was matching them up well. then after I saw the what the wood really looked like, I was too lazy to mill some more wood.

Hi Jill, the logs have been milled to dimention and are now under plastic waiting for procrastination to run it's course. You're house looks great! keep up the beautiful work.

You've exceeded even yourself there mate! One could fall into that grain. My initial thoughts were 'too much' too, but, if you've got it, get it out there - no-one else anywhere will have a bed just like that. Love it.

The design has a good balance too.
