Osage Orange, Kitchen Utensils
A forum member kindly gave me some osage orange in log form, this was quite awhile ago, i re-sawed it straight away at the vwa on their bandsaw. I cut it into 25mm thick planks. Initially i was going to make a bike basket out of it but that ended up being very impractical, as it was much to heavy (both stainless steel racks and timber cladding would weigh in at around 8kg... )
Recently i gave the timber to a friend and she carved two kitchen utensils. Each utensil took around 8 hours to carve. She said that the osage orange was pure magic to carve, especially when compared with australian hardwoods.
I have attached photos.
