The old kero burner is a classic and I can remember fitting leather washers to keep one going for Dad.
Many backyard plumbing jobs were done with these beauties.
Nice example of a bit of our past.

I remember them to and I still have my 'miniature' knockdown brass kero pressure stove from the early 60's (when I was a scout).
Leather washers were used and was the norm, usually soaked in a bit of oil first.
That pump washer was probably made of leather too, usually about 3-4 thin layers then oiled.
Do you know how to fire it up??

old models are collectors items and can get reasonably big bucks (that's if you're a money grubbing philistine..)

That little cup at the back of the tubes should probably be a container for metho.
Just sit it back and fill the cup with meths and light, as it starts to die down start to pump gently until the kero takes hold.
have all the filler caps etc closed up tight before you start.
The primus stoves work on the same principle with a small reservoir at the base of the burner.

When you are warming it up with the meths in the warming cup make sure that the filler cap is tight but leave the pressure relief valve, just below the filler cap, loose so that any pressure build up from the heating process doesn't cause the kero to come out of the nozzle flaming and set fire to anything.

A pommy mate of mine set fire to the curtains of his mothers house because of this. Years ago when we used to use them for burning off paint the poms used to burn off indoors. Us kiwis only ever used them outdoors.
