Picked this up cheap
Hi,
I picked this up pretty cheap & have spent a bit of time doing her up.The fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.

Hi Ticky,
Looks like a good score, is the cutter block missing or did you remove it? Have you given it a run yet?The time we enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

Thanks all, I am very happy with the outcome.
to answer questions, The cutter block was removed, as was everytng else. she was totaly stripped & rebuilt, except for the motor, as there was no need to remove it. The fence shaft was totally ceased, & I had to have it pressed out, but to clean it up was just a Wire Wheel on the grinder. I thought about getting it skimmed, but it has to be a pretty good fit & I didn't want it to be too loose.
It has taken about 3 months doing bits here & there, with help from my dad & brothers along the way, & to be honest, it was not a project that I wanted to hurry.
The beds are very flat, & I just had to shim it a bit to make it true, but that was an easy number. I had the blades sharpened, & have put them back, & I used a pair of Welders Magnetic Squares to set the fence.
It has a 3hp motor & really winds up. I ran a piece of manky old redgum through it to test it & the results are pretty good.
I painted it in Hammer Tone, pretty close to the original colour I recon, but to be honest, the photo looks better than the real deal, as I am prolly the worlds worst spray painter.
The make is a Wadkin, Made in England, The bed size is 315mm wide x about 1870mm long, ruffly 1' x 6'.

Hi,
It was about 14 months ago when I got this machine going, & today, I finally finished it. I have been using it by plugging it in to a cord but not through a switch. The waste was just dropping on the floor, & while it has worked a treat, It was just a little more feral than I wanted.
Sadly, the original switch gear had died a cruel & wicked death long ago. At some point in time, somebody had installed an industrial switch under the feed in table. This was in a terrible position for me, so I reinstalled it in the original position. All the holes were there, but the threads were badly rusted & gunded up. Being a British built machine, I assumed the threads would be SAE, I may have been wrong, but they are now. A 1/4" Tap & some nice shinny new bolts, ... Jobs done.
I also made up a plate for dust extraction, once again, the holes were there but needed some attention.
Finally, it was time for the name plate. I'm not sure how this was originally held on, I'm guessing maybe drive screws, but the holes in the plate were mangled, so I drilled them out, tapped a couple new threads & used matching bolts.
I think it looks as good as it works now. I love this machine, I find it to be a thrill every time I turn it on.
Thanks for putting up with my ramblings.
