    Default First piece of furniture

This is the 1st piece of furniture I've made. It's a side table for the wife to put her indoor plants on. Made from a pallet that I was trying out the Kreg pocket hole jig I had bought and it kind of came together. I made lots of mistakes and found that cutting square and accurately appears to be a talent I don't possess. Fixing the legs was a bit of a challenge and I tried several different ways before I could make it stable. In hindsight I would do many things differently but it was fun to build and made the Mrs happy. Hopefully I work out how to upload the pic....

First pieces are to be always kept .. you need to have a starting point marker for your woodwork journey.

The great outcomes with this table are that it does what was designed and built to do AND ... the missus is happy. So ..... well done

    Regards

This is the best shot I can get of the top because of where it is, didn't want to pull the dining room table out again to move it.

Also a pic of the top as I was making it, at that point I was just testing out the table saw and Kreg jig when the Mrs said "that would make a nice table for my plants if it was longer". So I made another half and whacked the legs on. The table saw is an elcheapo Aldi one I bought a couple of years back because they had an over supply and kept reducing the price, when they got down to $39 I bought one thinking I might use it one day. It sat unopened until a few weeks back.

First go mate-seen firsts that literally fall down at a shove. By the way a crossbeam between the lower leg braces (don't rely on my terms as official) would add a great deal of strength. Cross grain movement will show you something in the future. Tell the missus to keep good trays / saucers under the plants too-sealed /plastic -not raw terra cotta. Good first crack keep going.

    Looks good to me!

I pulled out the mitre saw the other day, cut off 4 lengths of wood. When I was lining them all up they were all different lengths.
Turns out a few of the screws holding it true had worked loose and there was quite a bit of wiggle room when you plunged it down.
For me it is so important to make sure my blade is square to the tool, as I will find a way to mess it up otherwise!!
You should try being left handed. Everytime I pick up a tape measure, I have to read the numbers upside down!

Great job on your first project. As you said, you learnt a lot as you went so that will stay in the back of the mind for next time you tackle something similar.
Now to start dreaming up your next job and putting into practice what you have learnt.
Great score on the tablesaw too. Most hand held circular saws cost more than that.
